Our story begins with our belief that the rich soil of Akhisar deserves a special wine of its own, and our decision as a family to begin growing our own grapes in our own vineyard. We consulted French and Italian experts on the best methods of establishing and managing a vineyard and did the rest ourselves, from choosing varietals to pruning and cultivating the vines. We began producing Selendi wines in 2000, and since then have expanded our vineyards and increased our production of quality wines.

We felt it essential to produce our wines in a traditional, time-proven manner, in the “Chateau-Style”, establishing our winery next to the vineyards so that the grapes we harvested would not be transported by truck over long distances, but rather carried by hand in small baskets. Each bunch of grapes was in our care from the moment it was picked until the moment it was pressed.

Happily, our Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz blend, the first such blend to be produced in the “Chateau-Style” in Turkey, lived up to our high expectations.

This year’s Selendi is produced from a blend of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varietals of the 2009 vintage. The design of the label is from a painting by Turkish artist Birol Kutagdu.

We are also happy to introduce our new rosé wine, Gülpembe, which we produced in 2010 at our organic vineyards in Akhisar-Sarnıç. Gülpembe is not a blend of red and white wines, but is made according to the traditional rosé wine production methods of Southern France, using Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Shiraz varietals.

We are eternally grateful to the rich soil that has given us these superb wines.
